Top Crypto Events 2024
There are many different types of crypto conferences and events, some of which are tailored for specific audiences.
Conference attendees can include all kinds of people from the digital asset sphere, including:
- Web3 founders and entrepreneurs
- Developers
- Investors
- Journalists, media, and PR representatives
- Officials from governments or regulatory bodies
- Executives, IT or marketing professionals from non-Web3 companies such as banks, retailers, or tech firms, that are establishing a Web3 or blockchain presence
Crypto is a broad church, so depending on the size and scope of the event, there can be huge diversity in terms of types of participants.
WebX Asia
Billed as the largest Web3 conference in Asia, WebX convenes key players, startups, companies, investors, government officials and media from Japan and abroad. It’s organized by Coinpost, Japan’s largest crypto and Web3 media outlet.
Last year’s event saw several very high-profile speakers address the 16,500 attendees, including the Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, along with several other prominent Japanese political and government figures. The speaker list also featured industry leaders such as Binance founder CZ and Uniswap founder Hayden Adams.
Along with the main event, attendees will have opportunities to attend side events such as workshops, Web3 hackathons, private parties, and more.
Korea Blockchain Week 2024
Korea Blockchain Week takes place over a full week in September, with the two-day IMPACT event forming the main conference keystone. Attendees can expect to delve into all corners of the Web3 space, including gaming, DeFi, NFTs, regulation, AI and more.
Speakers at the last event comprised local and international industry leaders, featuring Simon Kim, CEO of Korean Web3 investing firm Hashed and Henry Chang, CEO of WEMADE, alongside Skybridge Capital’s Anthony Scaramucci and Vitalik Buterin.
If past events are anything to go by, attendees who can make the full week will be treated to some of the best networking events and parties on the conference scene. Festivals, Formula E World Championships, and immersive audiovisual art galleries have all featured at previous KBW events.
Token 2049 Singapore
Part two of this year’s Token2049 event will move east to Singapore (see here for details of the April Token2049 conference in Dubai), taking place right before the F1 Singapore Grand Prix. Just like the Dubai event, Token2049 attracts a buzzing fringe of side meetups, workshops, hackathons, networking drinks, parties – and of course, racing.
Headline speakers include investor and author Balaji Srinivasan, Binance founder CZ, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and more than a few sporting celebrities, just to mix things up.
Token2049 is taking place at the landmark Marina Bay Sands Hotel which dominates the Singapore skyline with its three towers. In addition to the stunning views over the bay, the resort offers a shopping mall, nightclub, casino, museum, and theatre.
Solana Breakpoint
A three-day event where over 3,000 delegates convene to discuss all things Solana, this year’s Breakpoint will be moving from its previous European locations to Asia’s finance and luxury hub, Singapore. One of the newer events on the list, this has been running under the organization of the Solana Foundation since 2021.
Details on this year’s event are currently scant, but as with previous years, you can expect a lineup that’s pulled directly from the Solana ecosystem directory, with keynotes likely to come from the platform’s founder and chief spokesperson, Anatoly Yakovenko.
If there are any big Solana-related announcements to come this year, then you can also bet that they’ll be saved for Breakpoint. The 2023 event saw the launch of Firedancer, a new validator client that aims to improve the network’s resilience, efficiency, and throughput.
European Blockchain Convention
A regular staple in Barcelona, the European Blockchain Convention positions itself as the most influential blockchain event in Europe. 6,000 attendees, 70% decision makers, descend on the Catalonian city to network and share insights. The conference is organized into five tracks, covering digital assets and finance, Web3, infrastructure, policy, and enterprise blockchain.
As you’d expect from a tech-focused event, the speaker lineup has a heavy slant towards more tech-based firms and CTOs. Past speakers have included Nansen co-founder Lars Bakke Krogvig, Banco Santander Blockchain CTO Coty de Monteverde, and Algorand Foundation CTO John Woods.
Speaker sessions take place over multiple stages, while the conference also features an exhibition area, startup contest, hackathon, investor meetup, and plenty of networking and side events to fill the evenings and spare time.
Mainnet
Staged by market intelligence firm Messari, Mainnet is one of the smaller yet still highly influential events on the crypto circuit. 3,000 crypto leaders, operators, builders and investors gather in the Big Apple for three days of workshops, product demonstrations, and interactive discussion sessions.
Featured speakers this year include New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, and Union Square Ventures partner Fred Wilson. With over 200 speakers on the lineup, Mainnet offers a great opportunity to network in a more exclusive setting.
As an event with a heavily US-centric focus, Mainnet is known for aligning itself with causes close to the heart of the US crypto sector. In 2023, the event donated part of its profits to lobby organizations calling for common-sense crypto regulation.
Permisionless III
Permissionless, hosted by media outlet Blockworks, is one for the DeFi diehards. This year, the event moves from the well-trodden streets of Austin to the mountainous metropolis of Salt Lake City. Over 7,000 delegates will convene to discuss all the latest development and innovations emerging from the field of decentralized finance.
Given DeFi’s status as crypto’s “killer use case” Permissionless has attracted some impressive speakers in the past. Along with Vitalik himself, Bitcoin OG Eric Voorhees, a16z partner Chris Dixon, and Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev have all taken to the Permissionless stage, so expect a killer lineup for 2024.
How to be successful in crypto events during 2024
Define your purpose
Decide what your main objective in attending the conference will be. Is it meeting VCs? Find job openings? Learning about interesting concepts? Discovering new apps and services?
Identify and prioritize meeting targets
Prepare a list of people you’d like to meet divided by tiers. For instance, Tier 1 will be those people who you might see at mealtime or in the hallways and intentionally say hi. Tier 2 will be the high-priority contacts that you will ideally have a face-to-face meeting with during the event. See how many of these you can set up in advance, for example, by offering to meet for a coffee.
Highlight interesting panels and keynotes
Every good conference starts with planning. If you know in advance which sessions you want to attend, there’s less chance that you’ll be standing outside a crowded room, having failed to arrive early enough for a seat.
Sign up in advance for side events so you don’t miss out
Some of the best networking opportunities can happen during informal encounters at fringe events. If there’s a chance, sign up for these events in advance, particularly if attendee numbers are limited.
Join the conversation
If there’s a social app or Telegram channel dedicated to the conference, join it and make some introductory posts on the public forums. Similarly, if the event is using a hashtag, make some posts on your social media channels to increase the chances of encountering other attendees.
Find the media list
You can usually find the list of media reps in the conference group or app. Media reps attend events to seek out interesting stories, which explains why brands often drop their announcements at events. If you have a launch coming up or a piece of news to share, make sure the press knows about it.
Socialize near the booth area
The real business happens away from the stage. There’s no right way to do it, but you have to remember that everyone at the event is there to talk with other people about crypto. Now is not the time for nerves – relax, introduce yourself to people, and let the conversation flow!
